The RBI needs to change, by design or default it is strangling innovation in the financial inclusion space.Laveesh Bhandarihttp://indicus.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19649274.post-24329298236169821772012-07-08T10:28:44.071+05:302012-07-08T10:28:44.071+05:30The approach to a less-cash economy via sophistica...The approach to a less-cash economy via sophistication and scaling up of existing check and electronic payment systems appears to be an obvious way to go in a ideal world. Obviously, the RBI appears to have tread a safe route bypassing the concerns around the black economy. Is the RBI really unaware of continued preference for use of cash in real estate and retail transactions or bribing the govt officials where anonymity of individual or sources of money are so important? No matter how accessible the payment systems are to become, the preference and continued patronage of cash will remain. Given the political implications of any move to restrict cash usage by regulatory means, it appears very unlikely such regulation will take shape.Sridharnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19649274.post-13665505413184319942012-07-07T13:16:49.155+05:302012-07-07T13:16:49.155+05:30It is good that u have observerd it very carefully...It is good that u have observerd it very carefully... But dont you think keeping in the mind the timespan for which the vision document is written, steps proposed by RBI is commendable... I do agree that if we have to phase out cheques eventually and it is not necessary to spend too much on creating an infrastructure which we cannot use in future, but, this is the best RBI could do as of now. There are millions of people in the country who are not even having bank account forget about writing cheque and above all operate machines, remember passwords and pins.. <br />RBI should also make their payment and settlement department more visible, if they really want to regulate system in country like ours.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19649274.post-15760102265136177432012-07-06T12:16:36.077+05:302012-07-06T12:16:36.077+05:30This is beautifully written. This is beautifully written.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
